Sean has safely collapsed approximately 20 buildings for use with urban search and rescue training around the country. Over the past six years, he has taught several hundred students successfully in these skills.
Collapse Experience:
Below are only a few of the major collapse incidents that Sean has responded to in which he was able to use his knowledge and experience and avoid serious situations. There are far too many, that he participated in, to list here.
- Spring, 1988 - Spring Street, Manhattan, NY
Six story tenement totally collapsed. Rescued 1 occupant from top floor and subsequently awarded a citation for valor.
- Spring, 1988 - Brooklyn, NY
Five story apartment building partially collapsed. Shored building and effected rescue of trapped occupants.
- Winter, 1988 - 31st Street, Manhattan, NY
Five story commercial building collapse. Search and rescue of trapped occupants.
- Spring, 1990 - Bronx, NY
Concrete slab collapse. Effected recovery of one deceased victim and rescue of second live victim.
- Fall, 1992 - Spanish Harlem, NY
Shored second story of six story tenement. Imminent collapse situation due to renovation work. Secured building and successful evacuation of occupants.
- September 11, 2001 - World Trade Center Collapse
Worked at site of collapse for four weeks under the direction of the FDNY Special Operations Command.

Summary of qualifications:
Rescue Company 3 was designated as the Collapse Unit for all of New York City in 1988. The company's original members, including Sean, designed the collapse unit including supplies and tools, as well as wrote standard operating procedures for responding to collapse events.
As a charter member of the City of New York's structural collapse unit, Sean was trained in shoring principles, confined space search and rescue as well as void search and rescue. His 30 plus years of building construction experience further enhanced his skills.
Throughout his career, Sean was awarded 8 citations for meritorious acts.
